Speech Therapy Services

Speech Solutions is a full service Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy clinic that provides comprehensive speech, language, feeding, and occupational therapy services to people of all ages. The therapy environment and techniques chosen are established to best develop the acquisition of appropriate communication and daily living skills based on a client's individual needs.

 

General Speech Therapy Services offered are as follows:

  • Auditory processing screening and treatment

  • Feeding assessment and treatment

  • Intensive group parent training programs.

  • Hearing, Speech-Language and Vision Screenings

  • Co-treatment sessions with Occupational Therapy

 

Specific Speech Therapy services offered are as follows:

 

  • Birth to Three Intervention

  • - Helps at risk infants and preschoolers with pre-speech and pre-language acquisition, interactive communication skills and feeding management.

  • Oral Motor Therapy

  • - Develops oral motor differentiation, strength, range of motion, and coordination necessary for swallowing and speech production.  Speech Solutions therapists are certified/trained in PROMPT, the Beckman Oral Motor Program, and the Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson Oral Motor Program. 

  • Articulation and Phonologic Process Intervention

  • - Utilizes techniques such as oral motor intervention and multi-sensory feedback with children whose speech is difficult to understand. Trains children and adults learn to use the "rules of speech" and the "sounds of speech" to communicate effectively.

  • Special Needs Services

  • - Provides skilled language and speech intervention for people with Down syndrome, Cleft Palate, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Hearing Impairment/Cochlear Implants, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorders and other complex disorders.

  • Apraxia Therapy

  • - Combines intensive oral motor therapy, cued speech, articulation drills, and language expansion techniques to improve motor speech planning and create effective fluent communication. Often incorporates music and may be done in a small group when appropriate.

  • Auditory Processing Therapy

  • - Develops age-appropriate processing skills through extensive testing and disorder specific therapy programs often consisting of intensive computer training on programs such as Earobics and Fast Forward.

  • Stuttering Treatment

  • - Trains people to speak and read more fluently.

  • Neurological and Cognitive Therapy

  • - Assists individuals with: Dysarthria, Aphasia, Parkinson's disease, ALS, head injury and other neurological difficulties to improve motor speech movements, language and cognition.
     
  • Feeding Disorders and Swallowing Intervention

  • - Provides diagnostic information regarding swallowing safety and efficiency, informs patient and family regarding consistencies and foods safe to swallow, implements intensive oral motor therapy and dysphagia/swallowing techniques necessary to safely manage current oral intake and ultimately increase oral intake to include all consistencies.

 

  • Tongue Thrust Intervention

  • - Trains clients to change swallow and tongue positioning patterns to improve dental malocclusion and associated speech problems.

  • Preschool Speech, Hearing and Vision Screenings

  • - Screenings are available to schools or parents interested in identification of children's speech, hearing and vision problems.

  • Fast ForWord and Earobics Computer Programs

  • Parent Training Programs

  • - Hanen Parent Training "It Takes Two to Talk" is offered in a group environment to train families on how to communicate effectively with a speech-language delayed child. Lisa Dunwoody, M.S., CCC-SLP is Hanen certified.   • Pragmatic Language Therapy

  • - Facilitates functional communication skills for children with Down Syndrome, Nonverbal Learning Disorders, and Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

  • Sensory Integration Disorders & Speech Therapy

  • - Language therapy incorporating sensory integration (SI) techniques into a speech therapy session in order to establish the best learning environment for a child with SI Dysfunction. This involves taking into consideration the tactile, vestibular, and proprioceptive senses of the child, and altering the session in order to allow necessary "breaks", and therefore create the ideal "organized" learning and language environment.
  • Therapeutic Listening-Therapeutic Listening is therapeutic use of electronically altered music used in combination with sensory integration treatment strategies to help with vestibulo-proprioceptive organization.  Therapeutic Listening helps speed the emergence of attention, organized behavior, self regulation, postural control, bilateral coordination, praxis, fine motor control, oral motor/articulation, social skills/communication, and visual motor integration.   • Picture Exchange Communication System- An augmentative or alternative approach to communication involving the exchange of picture symbols with a communication partner to make requests or comments.   • Voice Therapy- Trains clients to reduce vocal abuse and use strategies to help lessen the effects of vocal pathologies such as vocal nodules.
